Shipping firearms/ammo in containers to Hawaii

If you get to lock your own container so no one has access and all they are doing is shipping
the container from Cali to Hawaii, why can't you just throw in the firearms / ammo
in the container? (Assuming you are legally permitted to own them at the destination)

They tell you that those items are prohibited from being transported.

Who tells you they are prohibited? I had wondered about shipping to Alaska.

If you are talking about a large shipping container full of household goods [furniture etc] I would place the items in unmarked boxes and load them in there.

Only thing is if the container is lost or destroyed you would not be able to file an insurance claim for it.

The moving company who handles this says that you cannot have them in there.

But not being able to file insurance claim, as Elroy stated, is the only problem that
I can possibly foresee. Just thought it was interesting.

There are federal laws regarding shipping of firearms, and as far as I know this would violate them. I pretty sure that you'll either need to ship your arms(to yourself) via USPS/common carrier, OR check them on the plane when you go. Airlines place restrictions on how much ammo you can check, so you may be SOL on that one. Shipping the ammo via the cargo company is probably legal, so what they don't know won't hurt them. Assembled cartridges are not considered hazardous materials, so there should be no problem there.
